At least five people were killed in a gun attack on the motorcade of a Yemeni government official in Taiz province. The attack targeted Taiz Governor Nabil Shamsan, and two other people were wounded. Authorities reported that two attackers were killed during the shootout. No group has taken responsibility for the attack, and officials are investigating to find those accountable and hold them responsible. Taiz has been a key battleground in Yemen’s civil war, with Iranian-backed Houthi rebels fighting government forces and other militias. The city is important because it lies at the junction of major highways that connect the Red Sea coast to northern and southern Yemen. The Houthis have blockaded Taiz since 2016 as part of their fight against the internationally recognized government. Yemen’s civil war began in 2014 when the Houthis forced the government into exile. A Saudi-led coalition entered the conflict in 2015 to help restore the government, but fighting has slowed in recent years after a partial ceasefire agreement.
Pray for an improved security system in Yemen. Pray for divine protection and peace upon both the civilians and authorities in the country. Pray for divine comfort upon the families of the deceased victims. Pray that the perpetrators behind this attack are quickly brought to justice (The Holy Bible, Psalm 46:9).
Pray for a breakthrough in Yemen’s political deadlock. Pray for the LORD’S restorative power upon the nation and its people to blot out terrorism, violence, and enmity (The Holy Bible, Ezekiel 36:26).
