On November 25, 2025, several thousand members of Syria’s Alawite minority took to the streets of several coastal and central cities-including Latakia, Tartus, and Homs-to express their discontent with the government, demanding political change, the release of detained community members, and protection from violence. The protest in Latakia turned perilous when security forces fired shots to break up the crowds. Videos from the scene showed people injured and lying in a heap on the ground. According to officials, the security forces shot into the air, but gunfire reached civilians, per several witness accounts. Protesters said they felt afraid but continued marching to call for justice and equal rights. The protests mirrored growing anger and fear among Alawite citizens over what they see as unequal treatment. Despite the risks, thousands joined the protests to make their voices heard. The situation remained tense as security forces tried to control the streets and stop the gatherings.
Sovereign GOD, we plead for Your divine intervention in Syria to end the bloodshed against the Alawite community. LORD, we bring all the vulnerable people in Syria under the Precious and Powerful Blood of Jesus Christ, Your SON. Surround them with Your peace and comfort (The Holy Bible, 2 Samuel 22:3).
Pray for the new Syrian government to uphold the values of democracy and justice in the country. Pray for the authorities to take immediate action to ensure that those behind these cruel attacks are held accountable and to release all the imprisoned Alawites (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 31:8-9).
