Human rights groups are calling on the government of Laos to investigate the suspicious death of government critic Sisay Luangmonda. The 32-year-old activist, who often criticized corruption and poor governance online, was reported missing by his family on February 14, 2026. Witnesses said soldiers arrested him near the capital, Vientiane, and took him to Phonthan Prison. Four days later, his body was found on a roadside outside the city. His family says authorities have not provided information about what happened to him and have not carried out a proper investigation or forensic examination. The case highlights a long pattern of repression in Laos, where critics of the government often face threats, arrests, or disappearances, says the human rights groups. Activists say Sisay had received death threats before his arrest because of his social media posts. International groups warn that his death may increase fear among activists and journalists who speak out against the government.

Pray for the end of oppression in Laos. Pray that the perpetrators behind the suspicious death of the critic are quickly brought to justice. Pray for justice to prevail in the country (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 31:8-9).

Pray for the Laotian government to be more tolerant of dissenting voices. Pray for the immediate and unconditional release of all the imprisoned activists and journalists in Laos. Pray for more freedom of expression and speech in the country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 70:5).
