Tajikistan reported 364 cases of suicide and attempted suicide in 2025, which is 48 more than in 2024, according to the Committee on Women and Family Affairs. Of these, 254 were completed suicides, and 110 were attempts. Most cases involved women and underage girls, including 49 minors, showing a worrying rise compared to the previous year. Officials said the data highlights serious problems linked to violence against women and a lack of support. Common causes include domestic violence, family conflicts, forced marriage, emotional pressure, depression, and limited access to mental health and social services. Experts also point to a troubling pattern where young mothers with several children take extreme actions because of deep despair and difficult living conditions. One tragic case in Khatlon province involved a mother who survived after jumping into a river with her children, who died. Authorities stress the need for stronger prevention, better mental health care, and improved protection of women’s rights.
Sovereign LORD, we pray for Your divine intervention in Tajikistan to end the violence against women and girls in the nation. We cover all the vulnerable people, especially women, under the Precious Blood of our LORD Jesus Christ (The Holy Bible, Psalm 57:1).
Pray for the effective implementation of stringent measures to curb the violence against women in Tajikistan. Pray for a change in society so that the dignity and worth of life, especially of women and girls, will be recognized and upheld in the country (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 31:8).
