Food insecurity in Eritrea is a serious problem that affects a large part of the population, especially in rural areas. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), about 65% of Eritreans suffer from undernourishment, and around 78% of people live in rural regions where access to food and income is limited. Although most Eritreans depend on farming, agriculture contributes only 14% to the country’s total economy, showing a clear gap between farmers’ effort and government support. Many elderly people are among those most affected, with 37% facing severe food insecurity. Even in good years, only about 60% of older citizens can get enough nutritious food, and during droughts, this number falls by 25%. Poor rainfall, limited farmland, and weak infrastructure make food production unstable. This situation highlights the urgent need for stronger agricultural programs, better food distribution, and long-term policies to ensure that all Eritreans, especially the elderly, have enough to eat.

Pray for increased farmlands and improved infrastructure in Eritrea to end food insecurity. Pray for the Eritrean authorities to come up with creative ideas to improve the country’s agricultural sector (The Holy Bible, Psalm 118:25).

Pray for divine provision of food, clean drinking water, and other basic needs and rights to all the people, especially the elderly population in Eritrea. Pray for the end of the food crisis in the country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 146:7).
