Since the start of 2026, Nigeria has faced a serious rise in jihadist violence, especially in the northern states. Groups like Boko Haram, Islamic State West Africa Province, and Fulani militant Islamists have carried out deadly attacks, kidnappings, and massacres. In February alone, dozens of people were killed in Kebbi, Zamfara, and Kwara states, and many others were abducted, including schoolchildren and churchgoers. The violence has caused widespread fear, forcing families to flee rural areas and increasing poverty. Attacks often target communities that resist the militants’ strict interpretation of Islam, affecting Christians and Muslims alike. Nigerian security forces have struggled to respond, resulting in a breakdown of security in affected regions. To help, about 100 US soldiers are training Nigerian forces, following earlier airstrikes against terrorist camps. Human rights groups, such as the International Society for Human Rights and the Catholic Institute for Development, Justice and Peace, are providing support to survivors and displaced people.

Pray for the end of assaults on civilians in Nigeria. Pray that the perpetrators behind the violent attacks are quickly brought to justice. Pray for the safe return of all the kidnapped victims. Pray for divine protection upon all the innocent civilians (The Holy Bible, Psalm 7:6).

Let there be no breaching of terrorist groups into Nigeria in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ. Amen (The Holy Bible, Psalm 144:14).
