In Lebanon, thousands of families continue to look for answers regarding the disappearance of their loved ones during the civil war. Approximately 17,000 people are thought to have been forcibly disappeared, and their whereabouts are still unknown to this day. Many mothers, wives, and sisters have dedicated their lives to waiting, hoping, and demanding answers. To keep their stories alive, Lebanon has introduced its first online course with a gender perspective on the missing and forcibly disappeared in October 2025. The online course applies education as a tool to teach new generations about this difficult experience from a human rights and gender perspective. It focuses on the role that women have played in carrying the emotional and social costs of disappearance while also being at the forefront of the struggle for truth and justice. By using videos, testimonials, and discussions, students are educated on the concepts of memory, justice, and healing. Some students learned about their family’s hidden history for the first time. While education cannot fill the void of missing answers, it can be used as a tool to keep memory alive, facilitate empathy, and promote dialogue.

Abba Father, we bring all the families, especially women, of the victims of forced disappearance in Lebanon into Your Presence. Please heal their hearts and minds and bless them. Let their focus be on You, the Author and Finisher of our faith and hope. Fill them with Your divine Presence, love, and peace (The Holy Bible, Hebrews 12:1-2).

Pray for the Lebanese government to bring an end to the suffering of the civilians caused by the long years of conflict. Pray for justice to be served for the families of the victims of forced disappearance in the country (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 23:18).
