Pray For Dhaka

Dhaka is one of the world’s great urban centers—a place of universities, businesses, factories, technology, government, and enormous population density.

Pray for students. Pray for professionals. Pray for garment workers. Pray for families living in crowded neighborhoods. Pray for churches and Christian workers serving within the city.

Pray for the light of Christ to become visible in the heart of Bangladesh’s capital.

Arise, shine;
For your light has come!
And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.

Isaiah 60:1

Pray For Christians Under Pressure

Pray for Bangladeshi Christians who follow Jesus within families and communities where Christianity may be poorly understood or socially unwelcome.

Pray for courage without hostility. Pray for wisdom without fear.

Pray for Christian Believers who are isolated from other Christians.

Pray that Christian Believers will remain deeply rooted in Christ while showing grace toward their neighbors.

The Lord is my light and my salvation;
Whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the strength of my life;
Of whom shall I be afraid?

Psalm 27:1

Pray For The Bible To Travel

Bangladesh has an enormous population spread across cities, villages, islands, and river communities.

Pray for Scripture to become accessible in Bengali and other languages spoken by smaller communities.

Pray for audio Scripture, digital resources, printed Bibles, and trustworthy teaching.

Pray that God’s Word will reach places that Christian workers cannot easily reach on their own.

So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void,
But it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

Isaiah 55:11

Pray For A Harvest Of Disciples

Pray beyond individual decisions. Pray for disciples.

Pray for families following Jesus together. Pray for churches that make disciples who make disciples.

Pray for mature Bangladeshi Christian Believers who can lead the next generation.

Pray for the Gospel to move from one person to another, from one household to another, and from one generation to the next.

And this continued for two years, so that all who dwelt in Asia heard the Word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.

Acts 19:10

Region: South Asia
Capital: Dhaka
Population: Approximately 176 million
Primary language: Bengali (Bangla)
Other languages: Chakma, Sylheti, Chittagonian, Rohingya, and numerous Indigenous languages
Major religion: Islam
Other religious communities: Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, and Indigenous faith communities
Landscape: Great river deltas, floodplains, wetlands, hills, tea country, and the Bay of Bengal
Prayer focus: Bengali people, Indigenous communities, young adults, minority Christians, Rohingya refugees, and people who have never encountered the Gospel

Bangladesh is one of the world’s most densely populated countries. Its landscape is shaped by the enormous river systems of the Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna delta, with countless waterways, fertile plains, and communities built around rivers.

The country has a population of roughly 176 million, according to the latest World Bank data.

Dhaka is a vast, rapidly changing metropolis. Beyond it are agricultural communities, industrial cities, coastal villages, tea-growing regions, and the forested hills of the southeast. Bangladesh is predominantly Muslim, but its religious and ethnic landscape is much more diverse than the headline figures suggest.

The Bengali people form the overwhelming majority of the population and share one of the world’s great literary and linguistic traditions.

Bangladesh is also home to many smaller peoples.

The Chakma, Marma, Tripura, Garo, Santal, Mro, Bawm, Tanchangya, Khasi, Manipuri, and other Indigenous communities live in different parts of the country.

Many Indigenous communities are concentrated in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, while others live across the plains and northeastern regions.

There are also millions of people whose lives have been transformed by displacement.

In the southeast, more than one million Rohingya refugees live in and around Cox’s Bazar, following their flight from Myanmar. The population remains heavily dependent on humanitarian assistance, with children and young people comprising a large share of the community.

These are not simply populations on a map. They are people with names, families, hopes, and fears. Every one of them matters to God.

Bangladesh has a Christian presence, but Christians remain a very small minority within a population of more than 175 million.

The country’s constitution provides protections for religious practice, yet religious minorities—including Christians, Hindus, and Buddhists—continue to face various challenges, including communal tensions and incidents of religiously motivated hostility.

For many Bangladeshis, Christianity can seem like a distant or unfamiliar faith. Some have never met a Christian. Some have never read the Bible. Some may know Christian schools or hospitals without ever hearing the Gospel behind the work. Some live in communities where following Jesus can carry social pressure and some simply have never been given a meaningful opportunity to ask:

Who is Jesus?

That is why we pray.

Pray For The Bengali People

Pray for the millions of Bengali people who fill Bangladesh’s cities, villages, river communities, and workplaces.

Pray that the Gospel will be communicated in Bengali with clarity, beauty, and cultural sensitivity.

Pray that people encountering Scripture will understand its message and see Jesus clearly.

The entrance of Your words gives light;
It gives understanding to the simple.

Psalm 119:130

Pray For The Indigenous Peoples

Pray particularly for people living in the Chittagong Hill Tracts and for communities such as the Chakma, Marma, Tripura, Garo, Santal, Mro, and others.

Pray for their languages, families, cultural heritage, and future.

Pray that vulnerable communities will experience justice, dignity, and the love of Christ.

He will bring justice to the poor of the people;
He will save the children of the needy,
And will break in pieces the oppressor.

Psalm 72:4

Pray For The Rohingya

More than one million Rohingya refugees live in Bangladesh, with the largest concentration around Cox’s Bazar. Their displacement has become one of the world’s largest protracted refugee situations.

Pray for protection, dignity, education, hope, and opportunities for these families to encounter Christ.

For He will deliver the needy when he cries,
The poor also, and him who has no helper.

Psalm 72:12

Heavenly Father,

You see Bangladesh. You see the great rivers and the crowded cities. You see the villages, the coast, the hills, and the islands. You know every Bengali family. You know every Indigenous community. You know the Rohingya living far from their homeland.

You know the student searching for meaning. You know the Christian who feels alone. Lord Jesus, let Your Gospel be heard. Give Your Church courage and wisdom. Give Christian families strength.

Raise up Bengali disciples who will make disciples. Open doors for Scripture. Give young people opportunities to encounter You. Bring comfort to displaced families. Protect vulnerable communities.

Give wisdom to those serving the poor and displaced. And let the people of Bangladesh discover that the hope they are searching for has a name:

Jesus Christ.

May Your Church love boldly, serve humbly, and proclaim faithfully.

In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
