Pray For Bhutanese Families
Family relationships are deeply important. For someone considering faith in Jesus, questions about parents, grandparents, marriage, and community can become very significant.
Pray for families in which one person begins to follow Christ.
Pray for households where the Gospel spreads through love rather than division.
So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
Acts 16:31
Pray For Young Bhutanese
Young people are experiencing a Bhutan that is increasingly connected to the wider world. Education, tourism, technology, migration, and social media are changing how younger generations see themselves and their future.
Pray that young Bhutanese Christians will become courageous witnesses for Christ.
Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
1 Timothy 4:12
Pray For Christian Believers
Some Christian groups have reported that unregistered communities can worship privately but face restrictions on public organization, property ownership, fundraising, outreach, and the importation of religious literature.
Pray for Christians who worship in homes or small fellowships.
Pray for courage, wisdom, unity, and spiritual maturity.
Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
Isaiah 41:10
Pray For Those Who Face Pressure From Family
For some converts, following Jesus can create tension with relatives who regard Buddhist traditions as an important part of family and cultural identity.
Pray for new Believers who must follow Christ faithfully while continuing to love their families deeply.
Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.
Luke 9:23
Pray For Christian Leaders
Pray for pastors, elders, teachers, and other Christian leaders serving small communities.
Pray for spiritual depth rather than dependence on outside leadership.
Pray that Bhutanese Christian leaders will disciple Believers who can, in turn, disciple others.
Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly;
1 Peter 5:2
Capital: Thimphu
Population: Approximately 797,000
Primary languages: Dzongkha and other Himalayan languages
Other languages: Nepali, Tshangla, Bumthangkha, Sharchopkha, and others
Major religious tradition: Vajrayana Buddhism
Other religious communities: Hindu, Christian, and Indigenous traditions
Landscape: Himalayas, deep valleys, forests, and high mountain passes
Prayer focus: Bhutanese people, young adults, remote mountain communities, Christian believers, Hindu communities, and people who have never encountered the Gospel
Bhutan is a small Himalayan kingdom surrounded by some of the world’s highest mountains. Its valleys, forests, and mountain passes have shaped communities for centuries.
The country’s population was estimated at 796,682 in 2025.
Thimphu is the capital, but Bhutan’s population is spread across mountain valleys and rural communities. The country’s distinctive cultural identity is deeply connected to Buddhism, traditional architecture, community life, and the Himalayan landscape.
The Ngalop, Sharchop, and other Bhutanese peoples form important parts of the country’s cultural landscape.
The Dzongkha language is associated particularly with western Bhutan and serves as the national language.
In eastern Bhutan, Sharchopkha is widely spoken, while many other communities maintain their own languages.
Bhutan also has a significant Nepali-speaking population, particularly in the south, alongside Hindu communities.
Christianity remains a very small minority faith. For many Bhutanese people, Buddhist beliefs and practices are deeply intertwined with family traditions, festivals, and cultural identity. That means that following Jesus can involve much more than adopting a different set of beliefs. For some, it can feel like stepping outside the expectations of family and community.
Pray for people who are searching for Christ as they navigate those relationships.
Bhutan’s Constitution recognizes Buddhism as the country’s spiritual heritage while also providing for freedom of thought, conscience, and religion. Religious organizations are subject to registration requirements, and unregistered groups face restrictions on public activities. Christian communities have reported difficulties obtaining official recognition and publicly conducting certain activities.
For many people in Bhutan, Christianity is unfamiliar. They may have seen Christian activity elsewhere. They may have encountered Christianity through foreign visitors. They may have heard the name of Jesus.
People who have never sat with a Christian friend and asked questions. People who have never heard why Christians believe that Jesus died and rose again. People who have never considered that the God of the Bible might be calling them personally. There are Christian Believers who know Christ but live quietly in communities where Christianity remains unfamiliar.
Pray for the moment when Jesus becomes more than a distant name.
Pray For Those Searching For Meaning
Pray for the Bhutanese people who are asking questions about suffering, death, purpose, and eternity.
Pray that spiritual searching will lead them toward the truth found in Jesus.
Pray for sincere seekers to encounter Christ.
And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:13
Pray For The Remote Valleys
Remember, people, living far from Thimphu and the country’s other major centers.
Pray for mountain communities that may have little contact with Christian Believers.
Pray for spiritual refreshment to reach even the most isolated communities.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
Psalm 23:2
Pray For The Nepali-Speaking Communities
Remember Bhutan’s Nepali-speaking communities and Hindu families.
Pray for people whose cultural identities span the Himalayan region.
Pray for Christ-centered relationships that cross language and cultural boundaries.
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
Galatians 3:28
Pray For The Languages Of Bhutan
Bhutan is linguistically diverse.
Pray for Scripture, Christian teaching, and evangelistic material to be made accessible in the languages people actually use at home.
Pray for translators, teachers, and communicators who can express biblical truth naturally within Bhutanese cultures.
And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language.
Acts 2:6
Heavenly Father,
You know Bhutan. You know every mountain valley. You know every village and every family. You know the people of Thimphu. You know the farmers in the countryside. You know the young person wondering about the future. You know the person quietly searching for the truth.
You know every Christian worshipping without a large community around them. Lord Jesus, reveal Yourself to the people of Bhutan. Give Your Church courage and wisdom. Protect Christian Believers who face pressure.
Strengthen Christian families. Raise up Bhutanese pastors, teachers, and disciples. Open doors for Scripture to reach people in their own languages. Give young people opportunities to encounter You.
Let the Gospel take root—not as something foreign imposed from outside, but as the good news of Jesus Christ embraced by Bhutanese people themselves. May families discover Your grace. May seekers discover Your truth. May Believers discover fresh courage. May the people of Bhutan come to know the One who is greater than every mountain.
In the Name of Jesus,
Amen.
