Pray for isolated Christian Believers

Many Turkmen Christian Believers have few opportunities for fellowship with other Christians. Pray for courage without unnecessary exposure, wisdom in relationships, and deep roots in Scripture.

Lord, let isolated Christian Believers know that You have not forgotten them. Go with them, and give them courage.

Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.

Deuteronomy 31:6

Pray for the Church in Turkmenistan

Pray for steadfastness when following Jesus Christ is difficult, wisdom when gathering together, protection for families, maturity among younger Christian Believers, and unity among Christians of different backgrounds.

Father, keep Your people from measuring their influence by numbers. Complete the work You have begun in them, even when they cannot see the whole picture

being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;

Philippians 1:6

Pray for courageous witnesses

A conversation with a friend, a shared verse of Scripture, or a quiet act of kindness may matter more than anyone knows. A faithful life can raise questions that words alone cannot.

Lord Jesus, let the lives of Your people in Turkmenistan point others toward You.

You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men;

2 Corinthians 3:2

Pray for God to open doors

Some doors appear firmly closed. Pray for new avenues for Christian witness, wise relationships, access to Scripture, and opportunities for people to investigate the claims of Jesus Christ for themselves.

Father, make a way through circumstances that seem impossible, and open doors no one can shut.

See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it;

Revelation 3:8

Capital: Ashgabat
Primary language: Turkmen
Other languages: Russian, Uzbek, and minority languages
Dominant religion: Islam
Landscape: Karakum Desert, Kopet Dag Mountains, Caspian Sea

Turkmenistan occupies a vast stretch of Central Asia. The Karakum Desert covers much of the country, the Kopet Dag mountains rise along the southern frontier, and the west reaches the Caspian Sea. Roads run for long distances through seemingly empty country, and communities can be separated by great distances.

Yet the desert is not empty. Ashgabat is the capital and largest city, and beyond it are provincial towns, agricultural communities, desert settlements, and villages where life is shaped by distance, water, work, and family. Turkmen society has been shaped by centuries of Central Asian history, nomadic tradition, Islam, the Silk Road, and the Soviet period.

Turkmen

The overwhelming majority, a Turkic-speaking people with a strong identity built around family, hospitality, history, and tribal heritage. The Akhal-Teke horse, Turkmen carpets, and traditional clothing and patterns are powerful expressions of national heritage.

Uzbeks

Concentrated particularly in the east and north of the country.

Russians and smaller communities

Including other ethnic minorities, many living in the cities.

Afghans

At the end of 2025, UNHCR recorded around 3,200 Afghans in Turkmenistan in refugee and other international protection categories.

For many in Turkmenistan, the greatest barrier is not geography but access. Independent religious activity is tightly regulated, and religious communities can face restrictions on registration, worship, literature, and other activities. International observers continue to report significant limits on religious freedom.

For some people, then, discovering the Gospel is not as simple as walking into a church. A young Turkmen may hear the name of Jesus without ever understanding who He is. A family may hold a deep religious heritage without ever opening the New Testament. A student may have the internet and still struggle to find reliable Christian material. A Christian Believer may have very few people with whom to share their faith openly.

Distance adds to the challenge. Remote towns and villages across the Karakum, and communities along the Caspian coast around Türkmenbaşy, may have little contact with any Christian witness.

Family is central to Turkmen society, so a decision to follow Jesus Christ touches a whole household, not only an individual.

Pray for a hunger for God

Pray for people with spiritual questions who have never found satisfying answers, and for a genuine hunger for God to grow in homes, universities, workplaces, and communities.

Father, let spiritual thirst become a pathway to Jesus Christ.

My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?

Psalm 42:2

Pray for Scripture in Turkmen

Pray for Turkmen-language Scripture, discipleship resources, Christian literature, and trustworthy digital material, and for people who can share biblical truth naturally within Turkmen culture.

Lord, let people encounter Your Word clearly and understand what they are reading.

Open my eyes, that I may see Wondrous things from Your law.

Psalm 119:18

Pray for young Turkmen

Many teenagers, students, and young adults are growing up between generations, carrying their heritage while meeting an increasingly connected world.

Father, let questions about identity, purpose, and the future lead young Turkmen to Jesus Christ rather than to temporary answers.

Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth,

Ecclesiastes 12:1

Pray for desert and coastal communities

Remember those living far from Ashgabat: remote towns, villages, and agricultural settlements across the Karakum, and the workers and families of the Caspian coast.

Lord, bring spiritual refreshment to places that seem isolated, and place faithful witnesses in unexpected places.

He shall come down like rain upon the grass before mowing, Like showers that water the earth.

Psalm 72:6

Pray for Turkmen families

Pray that the Gospel would reach not only individuals but households, through conversations around kitchen tables, on journeys, over tea, and in the ordinary moments of family life.

Father, let one person’s encounter with Jesus Christ become the beginning of a new story for a whole family.

But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

Joshua 24:15

Pray for Afghan families

Remember Afghans living outside their homeland, and pray for protection, dignity, provision, and genuine friendship.

God of compassion, do not let displacement keep Afghan families from encountering the love of Jesus Christ.

God sets the solitary in families;

Psalm 68:6

Father,

You see Turkmenistan: the desert and the mountains, Ashgabat and the smallest village, the Turkmen people and every other community living in this land. You know every family, every young person searching for answers, and every Christian Believer who feels alone.

Lord Jesus, reveal Yourself to those who have never truly heard Your Gospel. Give Your people courage, wisdom, protection, and opportunities to speak. Give people access to Your Word, and let Scripture travel farther than restrictions. Raise up Turkmen followers of Jesus Christ who will follow You faithfully and disciple others, and families who will open their homes.

Bring hope to families, truth to those who are searching, and strength to those who are suffering. Let the name of Jesus Christ become known throughout Turkmenistan, and let those who have never heard discover that You are their refuge and have not forgotten them.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
