Behind normal storefronts in Tehran’s Grand Bazaar, a covert trade in fast-acting sedatives commonly used as rape drugs is thriving. These substances leave victims conscious but defenseless and often unable to remember what happened. Research by Iran International shows these drugs are easily purchased in markets with almost no enforcement or public awareness. A contact posing as a buyer on Naser Khosrow Street was immediately offered pills and liquid sedatives without hesitation. Vendors openly claimed the drugs had no taste, caused deep sleep, confusion, and memory loss. A toxicologist confirmed the substances resemble Rohypnol-like drugs and GHB both known predator drugs. These drugs suppress reflexes and fragment memory, making a person appear awake but unable to resist. When mixed with alcohol, their danger increases dramatically, potentially becoming life-threatening. Social media users in Iran expressed outrage, fear, and distrust as reports of these drugs spread.  Many shared personal accounts and concerns that public spaces and gatherings feel increasingly unsafe.

Abba Father, protect every person from predators and hidden danger. Let every evil plan be exposed and stopped before it reaches its target. Lord, let justice rise against those who sell, distribute, or use drugs to exploit the innocent. May every wicked act be uncovered and judged righteously. Amen (The Holy Bible, 2 Thessalonians 3:3).

Lord, give courage and vigilance to communities. Let Your wisdom guard gatherings, friendships, and public places so fear does not rule hearts. In Jesus’ name. Amen (The Holy Bible, Psalm 27:1).
