Severe flooding has intensified in northern districts of Sabah, displacing more than 1,000 residents by Friday night. According to the Sabah State Disaster Command Centre, 1,070 people from 376 families have been evacuated in the districts of Kota Marudu and Pitas, with Pitas being the worst affected, impacting 30 villages. Multiple temporary evacuation centres have been opened, including schools and community halls, while additional centres are being prepared as river levels continue rising due to persistent heavy rainfall. The districts of Kota Marudu, Pitas, and Paitan have been officially declared flood disaster areas. Heavy rain has also disrupted parts of Sandakan, causing flash floods and fallen trees that submerged key roads. The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a severe continuous rain warning for northern Sabah, urging residents in low-lying areas to remain alert and comply with evacuation instructions as rainfall is expected to continue.
Abba Father, protect the families affected by flooding. Shield them from harm, keep them safe in evacuation centers, and calm the raging waters. Amen (The Holy Bible, Isaiah 43:2).
Lord, comfort those who have lost homes and possessions. Give them strength, courage, and hope during this difficult time. Amen (The Holy Bible, Psalm 46:1).
