Recent missile launches by North Korea have gained global attention, but its long-standing human rights problems remain very serious and often ignored. On March 13, Elizabeth Salmón told the United Nations Human Rights Council that the country’s human rights situation has not improved and has even worsened over the past ten years. Her report suggested using clear measures to track progress. People in North Korea face strict limits on movement, with strong border controls and harsh punishments for those trying to escape. Many are forced to work in jobs chosen by the state under new laws. These abuses are closely linked to the country’s weapons programs. Experts say that solving security issues also requires improving human rights. The United Nations and other groups are calling for more support, monitoring, and accountability, and they stress that human rights should be central in any future talks with North Korea.
Prayer:
Sovereign LORD, we pray for Your divine intervention in the nation of North Korea. Let Your justice and peace dominate in this country against all suppression from man and the evil one. In the Majestic Name of our Savior, Jesus Christ’s Name, Amen (The Holy Bible, Psalm 9:7-8).
Merciful Father, bring deliverance for the people of North Korea and restore hope and peace to them (The Holy Bible, Psalm 34:18).
Father GOD, we pray for Your divine protection and presence for all the believers in North Korea from all violence (The Holy Bible, Exodus 14:14).
