The government has approved a new ordinance to prevent human trafficking and migrant smuggling. This change comes after years of failed justice, where the vast majority of trafficking cases ended in acquittal due to weak investigations, unclear legal definitions, and misuse of the existing law. From 2020 to mid-2025, almost all disposed cases hundreds of them resulted in acquittal, showing serious gaps in the system. The new law aims to fix these problems by clearly defining migrant-smuggling offences, addressing online recruitment by traffickers, and giving investigators more power—such as freezing bank accounts and restricting travel of the accused. It also includes stronger witness protection and safeguards so that victims are not pressured into withdrawing complaints. While law alone cannot solve everything, having a strong and updated legal framework is a crucial step toward justice for vulnerable people.

Abba Father, we pray for justice to prevail in our nation. Strengthen the legal system so that the oppressed may finally find protection and fairness. Lord, grant wisdom, courage, and integrity to those responsible for enforcing the new law. Help them carry out their duties without fear or corruption. Amen (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 2:6).

Father, protect our people from traffickers and evil intentions. Let truth, compassion, and righteousness guide our society. In Jesus’ name. Amen (The Holy Bible,

2 Thessalonians 3:3).
