In Morocco, young people have led surprising protests that pushed the government to act. The protests, sparked by the deaths of eight pregnant women in a hospital in Agadir, grew into demands for social reforms, better healthcare, quality education, and an end to corruption. In response, the government announced plans to improve public education and healthcare, promising nearly $13 million for these sectors and creating over 27,000 jobs. Authorities also aim to involve young people in politics by easing rules for candidates under 35 and covering part of the campaign costs. Another proposal seeks to make political parties more transparent and encourage women and youth to participate. The movement, called “Gen Z 212,” reflects frustration with social inequalities and regional disparities, even though poverty in Morocco has dropped from 12 percent in 2014 to 6.8 percent in 2024. The government hopes these reforms will address citizen concerns and strengthen social services, while young people push for a fairer and accountable system across the country.
Praise GOD for the decision of the Moroccan government in response to the youth protests across the country. Pray for the immediate and effective implementation of the promised reforms in Morocco (The Holy Bible, Psalm 72:4).
Pray for the lawmakers to take action to end the corruption in Morocco. Pray for a fair and transparent judicial system to hold corrupt authorities accountable. (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 21:15).
