A new study by the Pew Research Center shows that Morocco is one of the least religiously diverse countries in the world. Almost the entire population is Muslim, and very few people follow other religions. This includes Morocco’s provinces in Western Sahara, where Islam also dominates. The study used a “Religious Diversity Index” (RDI) to measure how evenly different religions are represented, with 0 meaning one religion dominates and 10 meaning many religions are evenly present. Morocco scored only 0.08, showing very low diversity. Other countries with similar scores include Yemen, Iraq, and Tunisia. Most Moroccans follow Sunni Islam, and the government and culture strongly support Islamic traditions. Because of this, there is very little public presence of other religions. The study also found that Morocco’s low diversity is common across the Middle East and North Africa, while Asia-Pacific countries are the most religiously diverse in the world.
Pray for more religious tolerance in Morocco. Pray for the authorities to uphold the justice, rights, and freedoms of the civil society in Morocco. Pray for the lawmakers to cancel the oppressive laws that impact the fundamental rights and beliefs system in the country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 43:1).
Sovereign LORD, let Your Kingdom come, and Your Will be done in Morocco, in the Mighty Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen (The Holy Bible, Matthew 6:10).
Pray for the LORD to raise more prayer warriors to break through the strongholds of Islam upon the people of Morocco (The Holy Bible, 1 Timothy 2:1-2)
