In Morocco, hundreds of young protesters have been arrested and reportedly beaten, causing concern from human rights groups. The protests, led by Generation Z, began in late September and early October, demanding better healthcare and education. Many people were arrested even if they did not take part in the demonstrations. Some were allegedly beaten badly, forced to sign papers, and held without food or water. Women faced harassment and inappropriate behavior. Three protesters were reportedly killed, and many others were injured. Over 2,400 people are being prosecuted, and some have received long prison sentences. Human rights organizations say trials were unfair, and lawyers were not allowed. Families of victims are also facing intimidation. The government says trials were fair and legal. Meanwhile, protests continue, and young people are afraid to speak out. People want justice, safe streets, and accountability for those responsible. Many feel the government prioritizes big events over citizens’ needs.
Pray for freedom of speech and expression in Morocco. Pray for the immediate release of all imprisoned protestors. Pray for them to have access to their basic needs and rights in prison (The Holy Bible, Judges 2:18).
Pray for the end of arbitrary detentions and human rights violations in Morocco. Pray for justice to prevail for the oppressed protestors. Pray for divine protection for all the vulnerable people suffering from rights abuses, detention and displacement (The Holy Bible, Psalm 31:2).
