Rights groups and activists have raised concerns over an alleged campaign of arrests and intimidation targeting medical professionals in Iran who treated injured protesters. Reports reviewed by Iran International indicate that at least 32 doctors and nurses have been detained, with limited public information about their legal status. Arrests reportedly occurred in cities including Qazvin, Rasht, Tabriz, Mashhad, and Gorgan, particularly after January 8 amid intensified protests and security crackdowns. Mohammad Raiszadeh, head of the Iran Medical Council, acknowledged that 17 members faced judicial or security cases related to the unrest but stated that none were prosecuted solely for providing medical treatment. His remarks drew criticism from within the medical community, including Mahdiar Saeedian, who argued that the council’s stance risked normalizing pressure on healthcare workers. The situation has heightened fears about professional independence and the protection of medical neutrality during periods of unrest.

Abba Father, protect doctors and nurses who serve with compassion and integrity. Give them courage to uphold their calling and shield them from harm. Amen (The Holy Bible, Psalm 27:1).

Lord, strengthen the hands of those who heal the wounded. May compassion never be silenced and mercy never be punished. Amen (The Holy Bible, Galatians 6:2).
