In Afghanistan, the conflict has ended, but danger still lurks underground in the form of landmines and unexploded bombs planted during the decades of conflict. These hidden bombs of war continue to claim the lives of civilians, particularly children playing outside or farmers tending to their fields. Since 1989, over 45,000 civilians have been injured by these deadly weapons. The European Union is working to remove the mines and make the land safe again. They provide funding for demining organizations such as The HALO Trust and also provide risk education and medical care for survivors. Removing the land allows families to farm, build homes, and educate children without fear. This is an urgent need because millions of Afghans are suffering from extreme hunger and need safe farmland to survive. Survivors who have lost limbs receive medical care and prosthetics from organizations such as the International Committee of the Red Cross, who help them rebuild their lives after such traumatic injuries.

Pray for the LORD’s divine protection for all people in Afghanistan from landmines and other explosive remnants. Pray for the LORD to heal them, both physically and psychologically, from the war’s scars and its aftermath (The Holy Bible, Psalm 121:7-8).

Praise GOD for the mine-clearing project and medical care for the people in need in Afghanistan. Pray for increased funding to remove landmines and other explosive remnants of war in the nation. Pray for restoration and replenishment of the nation and its people’s lives (The Holy Bible, Jeremiah 30:17).
