Tajikistan faces several important challenges that could slow its future development. The country relies strongly on remittances from citizens working abroad; therefore, a change in global conditions increases vulnerability. As remittances comprised nearly half of the nation’s GDP in 2024, any decline will have an immediate impact on household incomes and reduce national economic growth. The country has a narrow economic base because, rather than having many diversified industries, it depends on only a few sectors. These factors limit job opportunities and exposure to external shocks. Besides, the nation has a high risk of debt distress, reducing the ability of the government to invest in services and infrastructure. The efficiency of the energy sector, transport, trade, digital systems, and access to finance are in need of improvement, although such changes require extensive reforms. For overcoming these obstacles, the country urgently needs stronger competition, an improved business climate, and better support for the private sector.
Pray for wise counsel for the authorities to take action to promote economic resilience to global economic changes in Tajikistan. Pray for development in both the country’s public and private sectors (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 16:3).
Pray for the government to implement effective diversification strategies to diversify the economy in Tajikistan. Pray for the government to create new and more inland job opportunities to hold the workforce from moving abroad (The Holy Bible, Psalm 118:25).
