Food waste has a strong effect on Israel’s economy. Last year, Israel threw away 39% of the food it produced, causing a loss equal to 1.3% of the country’s GDP. A new report by Leket Israel and BDO shows that the average household wasted food worth NIS 10,785. Although each person now wastes less food than ten years ago, population growth and higher food prices make the total loss bigger. In the past decade, food waste has cost the Israeli economy NIS 211 billion, while 1.5 million people still struggle to get enough healthy food. The report says food waste also harms the environment and increases health costs. Several policies and laws have been created to reduce food loss, and in 2025, a national plan was published, but it has no funding yet. Leket Israel says rescuing leftover food is a proven, effective solution that brings great economic value. Experts warn that food loss also raises prices and call on the government to fund and implement a national rescue plan.

Pray for the effective implementation of policies and laws to reduce food loss, which affects the economy and the environment in Israel. Pray for food security and economic stability in the country (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 8:33).

Pray for the 1.5 million people suffering food insecurity to have access to enough and healthy food and other basic needs and rights in Israel. Pray for divine provision for all the families in need (The Holy Bible, Job 38:41).
