Israel has begun demolishing the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) headquarters in East Jerusalem after passing new laws banning the agency’s activities. Police and Israel Land Authority officers arrived with bulldozers and took control of the site. UNRWA strongly criticized the move, calling it a serious attack on a United Nations agency and a violation of international law. The UN says its buildings are protected and cannot be seized or damaged. Israel argues that it owns the land, that UNRWA no longer operates there, and that the site has no legal immunity. Israeli officials also accuse UNRWA of supporting terrorism, claims the agency denies. The issue is linked to the wider dispute over East Jerusalem, which Israel considers its capital but which most of the world sees as occupied territory. Palestinian leaders condemned the demolition and called for international action. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres urged Israel to stop the demolition and restore the UN property immediately.
Pray for wise counsel and unity among the authorities to find a peaceful solution to the legal dispute between Israel and the UN agency. Pray for friendly relations between international authorities to promote the peace and stability of the Middle East region (The Holy Bible, Matthew 5:9).
Pray for divine peace and justice to prevail in the Middle East region. Pray for the LORD’S intervention in the region to eliminate the war and enmity between nations and peoples, and to bring HIS Kingdom in the region (The Holy Bible, Matthew 6:10).
