Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani announced that Iraq aims to begin exporting refined petroleum products globally by 2030, marking a major shift in the country’s energy strategy. Speaking at the Iraq Energy Conference 2026 in Baghdad, he emphasized that energy policy now shapes not only economic growth but also social, political, and educational development.

The government has set a strategic target to export 40 percent of Iraqi oil derivatives by 2030, alongside major reforms in gas utilization and electricity production. Recent discoveries have raised associated gas output to 132 million cubic meters, with a commitment to end gas flaring and fully utilize resources by 2028. Integrated planning has boosted electricity generation beyond 29,000 megawatts, easing pressure on the national grid, while plans are underway to construct 34 new power plants capable of producing 57,000 megawatts in partnership with specialized companies.

Abba Father, help Iraq steward its natural resources responsibly. May energy development bring prosperity without harming the land or the people. Amen (The Holy Bible, Psalm 24:1).

Lord, bless the work of rebuilding and innovation. Let new industries create jobs, reduce hardship, and bring stability to families and communities. God of light, may reliable electricity and energy access improve daily life, education, and healthcare, bringing hope and dignity to all citizens. Amen (The Holy Bible, Psalm 90:17).
