In Brunei, being a Christian, especially if you’ve left Islam, can be very difficult. People who convert from Islam face strong pressure to return to their former faith, and it’s even punishable by law. Churches that are not part of traditional Christian groups cannot register as churches. Instead, they must register as companies or family centers and are treated like businesses. They have to report everything they do to the government every year. Life is also becoming harder for all Christians as more Sharia laws are introduced, affecting everyday life and freedoms. Children, even as young as three, are now required to learn religious teachings that focus on the majority faith as part of their basic education. This makes it harder for Christian families to raise their children in their own beliefs. Young Christians, in particular, feel this pressure strongly, growing up with limited freedom to follow their faith openly.

Pray for more freedom of religion in Brunei. Pray for the Bruneian government to ease the restrictions on religious minorities in the country, which affects everyday life and freedoms (The Holy Bible, Psalm 10:18).

Pray for the Brunei government to remove the religious teachings included in the basic education of all children in the nation. Pray for divine protection upon all Christian families in the country to exercise their faith without hindrances (The Holy Bible, Psalm 72:4).
