More than 150 Iranian lawmakers have accused the judiciary of failing to enforce hijab regulations, claiming this has encouraged growing public defiance and contributed to what they describe as “lawlessness” and “moral decline.” In a letter to Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, 155 MPs said the judiciary has become passive and urged it to ensure that state bodies enforce existing rules until the government finalizes the delayed Chastity and Hijab law. Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf is also under pressure, with several hardline MPs accusing him of deliberately delaying the implementation of the law since September last year. Some even argue that postponing the legislation is preventing the enforcement of what they consider a divine obligation. Meanwhile, government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani said various ministries have submitted reports on the status of hijab enforcement to the president and the Supreme Leader. She added that actions would be taken to counter “organized movements” violating hijab norms.
Abba Father, we pray for all people affected by tension and pressure. Bring comfort, courage, and reassurance where fear and uncertainty exist. Lord, protect the vulnerable and ensure justice is carried out in a way that honors truth and righteousness. Amen (The Holy Bible, Psalm 37:28).
Lord, bring peace and calm into this situation. Help leaders and citizens seek understanding and compassion instead of division. Amen (The Holy Bible, Matthew 5:9).
