A 2024 survey by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics and UNFPA found that 76% of ever-married women aged 15 and above have experienced intimate partner violence in their lifetime, with 49% facing violence in the past year. Violence against women and girls spans physical, sexual, emotional, and economic abuse, as well as controlling behaviors, occurring in both public and private spaces. While Bangladesh ranked 7th globally in political empowerment in 2016, discrimination and gender-based violence continue to limit the potential of over half the population. The situation is further worsened by the rise of technology-facilitated gender-based violence, including cyber harassment and non-consensual image sharing, which has surged—particularly against politically active women—since July. Addressing GBV is essential for achieving inclusive, sustainable national development.
Abba Father, protect women and girls from violence and fear. Restore dignity, security, and peace to every home and public space. Lord, heal broken attitudes rooted in injustice and inequality. Renew hearts and minds so that respect, compassion, and equality may prevail. Amen (The Holy Bible, Psalm 9:9).
Lord, strengthen systems of justice so that perpetrators are held accountable and survivors receive protection and support. Amen (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 31:8–9).
