Migrant workers who built the Riyadh Metro in Saudi Arabia have faced over ten years of harsh and unfair treatment. Most of them came from Bangladesh, India, and Nepal, and they paid very high recruitment fees, sometimes as much as USD 3,500, to get these jobs, leaving them in debt. Once they arrived, they worked very long weeks, often over 60 hours, in extremely hot and dangerous conditions. Many earned very low pay, sometimes less than USD 2 per hour. Their housing was crowded and unsafe, food was poor, and they had almost no freedom. Employers often took their passports and restricted their movement, making it hard to leave or complain. Workers also faced threats, abuse, and a lack of proper safety at construction sites. This shows that, despite working on major infrastructure projects, they had almost no protection or rights. The situation highlights serious problems in the system that need urgent change to protect workers.
Pray against the Kafala system, which exploits the rights and freedom of migrant workers in Saudi Arabia. Pray for the Saudi government to implement reforms to end the violence against migrant workers in the country (The Holy Bible, Deuteronomy 1:17).
Pray for migrant workers suffering abuse and violence in Saudi Arabia. Pray for them to have access to all rights and freedoms. Pray for divine protection upon them. Pray for justice to prevail for the Riyadh Metro migrant workers (The Holy Bible, Jeremiah 51:36).
