In Eritrea, Christians experience intense persecution and fear. The government recognizes only four religious communities: the Eritrean Orthodox Church, the Catholic Church, the Lutheran Church, and Islam. Christians from other churches, particularly Protestant churches, are not recognized by the government. Some converts from Islam or the Orthodox Church to Protestant churches experience severe persecution from their families and communities. The government conducts house-to-house searches and arrests believers arbitrarily. In Eritrea, life is closely monitored, with phone calls and internet usage closely monitored by the government. Eritrea is sometimes referred to as the “North Korea of Africa” due to the close monitoring of life by the government. Young Christians are compelled to serve in the military indefinitely and cannot decline for religious reasons. Due to intimidation, violence, and fear of arrest, some Christians decide to leave the country. However, many Christians are courageous and continue to practice their religion despite the dangers.
Pray for the divine protection upon all the Christians in Eritrea from harm and violence. Pray that the Holy Spirit of GOD will empower and encourage all believers facing oppression. Pray for divine peace and comfort to sustain the Eritrean believers (The Holy Bible, Psalm 147:3).
Pray for the authorities of the oppressive regime in Eritrea to encounter the Love of GOD in supernatural ways. Pray for the untransformed hearts to perish by the breadth of the LORD’s anger. Let the roaring violence against the people of GOD in the country be broken, in Jesus’s Mighty Name (The Holy Bible, Job 4:9-10).
