Cancer rates in Iraq have risen significantly in recent years, raising major public health concerns. Experts attribute the increase to environmental pollution, rapid urban overcrowding, shrinking green spaces, and the country’s high vulnerability to climate change. According to 2025 data from oncology centers, the Kurdistan Region recorded 10,500 cases, Dhi Qar 10,000 cumulative cases, and Anbar 6,000 cases, reflecting the nationwide spread of the disease. In 2024, Iraq documented 46,320 cancer cases, with Nineveh reporting the highest number of infections at 3,234. Baghdad recorded the highest cancer-related deaths at 3,763, linked to air pollution, traffic congestion, and limited green spaces. Cancer trends show gender-based patterns: respiratory and prostate cancers are most common among men, while breast and thyroid cancers are most prevalent among women, highlighting the urgent need for improved screening, early detection, and environmental health measures.
Abba Father, we declare that God’s healing power flows through every sick body and weary soul. Disease has no final authority, for the Lord is our Healer. Restoration and strength shall rise. In Jesus’ name. Amen (The Holy Bible, Jeremiah 30:17).
Lord, help communities address pollution and environmental harm. Inspire leaders to protect the land and air for future generations. Amen (The Holy Bible, Psalm 24:1).
