Young people in Brunei are finding it hard to get jobs even after graduating, and many are adapting in creative ways while they keep looking for work. About 6,000 to 7,000 new graduates enter the job market each year, but there are more than 13,700 people actively seeking jobs, and youth unemployment is high. Many graduates with degrees have not yet found work in their chosen fields, so some, like a group of friends in the Tutong District, started a home‑based café to earn money while they wait for job opportunities. Others, like a young woman with a degree in Halal Science, started a freelance design business that focuses on art and culture to stay active and make income. These young job seekers say the market is competitive and limited, with few openings in their areas of study, so they must “usaha”, make effort, and think flexibly about work options while they continue the job hunt. Their stories show both the difficulty of finding traditional employment and the growing creativity and resilience of Brunei’s youth.

Pray for the government to create more job opportunities in Brunei. Pray for more effective action by the government to curb the increasing youth unemployment in the country (The Holy Bible, Exodus 23:3).

Pray for the Bruneian youth to have access to more employment opportunities and growth. Pray for the LORD to bless them with hope and a bright future (The Holy Bible, Jeremiah 29:11).
