A crude bomb exploded outside St. Mary’s Cathedral and another was thrown at St. Joseph’s School and College in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on November 7, in what church leaders condemned as a “terrifying” anti-Christian attack. While no injuries were reported, the incident has deeply unsettled Bangladesh’s small Catholic community of around 400,000 members. Fr. Albert Rozario said the blast occurred hours before a scheduled church programme, and police have launched an investigation. The attack follows an earlier bombing on Holy Rosary Church in October, for which a man tied to the Awami League was arrested. Christian leaders expressed concern that the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus has not provided adequate protection amid ongoing national unrest since the July Revolution, which killed over 1,400 people.

Abba Father, we lift up the Christians in Bangladesh. Protect them from harm and strengthen their faith in times of fear. Bring peace and stability to their nation, and let Your love shine through them as a light of hope. Remind them they are not alone but part of Your global Church. In Jesus’ name, Amen (The Holy Bible, Psalm 28:7).

Lord, move the hearts of leaders and law enforcers to uphold truth and protect the innocent. May those responsible for violence be held accountable, and may Your peace reign across Bangladesh. Amen (The Holy Bible, Isaiah 1:17).
