Across Bhutan, bullying in schools is declining as education shifts from punishment to compassion. Guided by the School Health and Wellbeing Strategy and the Guidelines for Anti-Bullying Mechanisms in Educational Institutions launched by Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck in 2022, schools are fostering empathy, connection, and emotional intelligence among students. Programs such as the Mentor-Mentee and Student Resilience Development initiatives have built trust between students and teachers, helping learners feel heard and supported. Counsellors and peer-led projects like Project Superhero now empower students to report bullying and promote kindness. The approach emphasizes restorative justice, helping offenders understand the harm they cause and make amends rather than face harsh punishment. This philosophy has reduced bullying, absenteeism, and violence while nurturing empathy, self-awareness, and healthier relationships. Bhutan’s schools are not only safer they’re becoming spaces where children grow into kind and resilient human beings.
Abba Father, bless our schools with hearts that show compassion and kindness. Help students to see each other through eyes of love, not judgment. May understanding replace cruelty, and care replace indifference. Amen (The Holy Bible, Ephesians 4:32).
Lord, grant teachers, counsellors, and leaders the wisdom to guide students with grace and understanding. Let every word they speak plant seeds of hope, empathy, and strength in young hearts. Amen (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 2:6).
