Bangladesh is facing a wave of violence with more than 30 crude bomb blasts and many buses being burned. Two more bombs exploded near Dhaka airport, but no one was hurt. The interim government led by Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus has increased security, sending soldiers and tightening checkpoints. A government office in Gopalganj and a Grameen Bank office were set on fire. Police have arrested many supporters of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League, accusing her of planning last year’s violent crackdown against protestors over the job quota system. The UN says up to 1,400 people may have died in that unrest.
Abba Father, bring peace to Bangladesh. Calm the violence, protect the innocent, and guide leaders to act with wisdom and compassion. Restore safety and stability across the nation. Amen (The Holy Bible, Matthew 5:9).
Lord, guide the leaders, security forces, and decision-makers. Help them act justly, avoid corruption, and seek truth over power. Bring justice for all who have suffered. Amen (The Holy Bible, Psalm 43:1).
