An American missionary was kidnapped in Niamey, the capital of Niger, according to security sources. He works for a US charity and has lived in Niger since 2010. The kidnapping happened close to the presidential palace, where ousted President Mohamed Bazoum has been held since a 2023 coup. Three unknown gunmen abducted the man, but no demands have reportedly been made. His phone was tracked about 56 miles north of Niamey, an area with Islamic State groups. The US Department of State said it was aware and was working with local authorities to secure his safe return. Niger, the largest country in West Africa, is part of the Sahel region, beset by jihadist attacks and military rule. Up until the coup, Niger had been considered relatively stable compared to Mali and Burkina Faso. Security remains decidedly an issue amidst militant activity and political turmoil after this coup. Efforts are underway to locate and rescue the kidnapped American safely.

Pray for divine protection for the kidnapped victim in Niger. Pray for his safe return. Pray against jihadist activities and extremism in the nation. Pray for political stability in the country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 17:8).

Pray for the government in Niger to take immediate action to rescue the kidnapped victims. Pray for the authorities to implement stringent measures to improve the security system in the country to protect innocent people from evil-doers. Pray for the LORD’s intervention in Niger to expose and dismantle the evil networks behind the kidnappings (The Holy Bible, Psalm 82:4).
