A 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck Bangladesh, killing at least five people, including one child. More than 450 people were injured across the country. The epicentre was near Narsingdi district, about 30 km from Dhaka. Buildings shook violently, causing panic as people rushed outdoors for safety. Makeshift structures collapsed, and several students were injured in a stampede at Dhaka University. Three people died in Dhaka’s Armanitola area after debris fell from a five-storey building. Gazipur district recorded the highest number of injuries, with 252 affected. Authorities are currently focused on assessing casualties and structural damage. Residents described the quake as one of the strongest felt in recent years. People reported furniture shaking, buildings trembling, and widespread fear during the tremor.
