A trial in Damascus has brought strong emotions as a former official of Syria’s Assad regime, Atef Najib, faced court for crimes linked to the early days of the 2011 uprising. Families of victims gathered inside the Palace of Justice, many crying and chanting for justice for loved ones who were killed or tortured during protests in Deraa. For them, seeing a former powerful figure behind bars felt like an important moment after years of suffering and silence. Some people believe this trial shows progress and could bring closure to families who lost relatives. However, human rights lawyers argue that Syria needs stronger laws and a fair system to properly judge war crimes and crimes against humanity. Others worry the trial may only be symbolic and not fully deliver justice. Still, for many victims’ families, this moment gives hope that accountability and truth may finally begin in Syria.

Pray for the LORD to heal physically and psychologically all the war victims in Syria and give them hope and a bright future in their homeland. Pray for an effective restoration process in the country (The Holy Bible, Isaiah 57:18).

Pray that all those responsible for the war crimes in Syria are swiftly brought to justice. Pray for fair and transparent trials and prosecutions in all war crimes cases. Pray for the Syrian lawmakers to take action to defend justice for the war victims in the country (The Holy Bible, Isaiah 1:17).
