The Shaikhs are a South Asian socio-cultural group commonly encountered in Pakistan and India. They are the descendants of early Arab Muslim immigrants, such as technocrats, soldiers, and merchants. High-caste individuals, such as Brahmins and Khatris, later converted to Islam and took up the Shaikh title. Urban-based Punjabi Shaikhs usually pursue business and public service occupations, though some continue to take up agriculture. After Islam, Shaikhs follow both Sunni and Shia practices and believe in the Five Pillars of Islam. Although they are present, the Shaikhs are an unreached people group with few missionary efforts targeting them.
