Pray For The Church

Pray for unity among Vietnamese Christians. Pray for Catholic and Protestant Christian Believers, established congregations, and newer fellowships to remain centered upon Christ and faithful to Scripture.

Pray particularly for ethnic minority Christians whose circumstances may be different from those of Christian Believers in major cities. Ask God to strengthen churches that worship in small homes, rural communities, and remote areas.

Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. Let all that you do be done with love.

1 Corinthians 16:13–14

Pray For Vietnamese Christians Under Pressure

Pray for Christian Believers who experience uncertainty because of their Christian faith. Pray especially for ethnic minority Christians and members of religious communities whose activities may face local restrictions or official scrutiny. Current reporting has documented such concerns in parts of the Central and Northern Highlands.

Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”

Deuteronomy 31:6

Pray For Christian Leaders

Pray for families affected by changing environmental conditions, economic pressures, and migration. Pray for churches serving rural communities to demonstrate Christ through practical compassion. Ask God to open doors for the Gospel among communities that may have little connection with Christian Christian Believers.

The Lord will guide you continually,
And satisfy your soul in drought,
And strengthen your bones;
You shall be like a watered garden,
And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.

Isaiah 58:11

Capital: Hanoi
Official language: Vietnamese
Ethnic communities: 54 officially recognized ethnic groups
Major religious traditions: Buddhism, Christianity, Cao Dai, Hoa Hao Buddhism, folk and ancestral traditions, and Islam

Vietnam stretches along the eastern edge of mainland Southeast Asia, with the Red River Delta in the north, the long central coastline, the Mekong Delta in the south, and mountains extending along much of the country’s western frontier. Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City represent two enormous centers of political, cultural, and economic life, while millions of people live in farming communities, fishing villages, industrial towns, and mountainous regions.

The country officially recognizes 54 ethnic groups, with the Kinh forming the largest group and numerous minority peoples living primarily in the northern mountains and the Central Highlands.

Vietnam’s religious landscape is complex. Buddhism has influenced Vietnamese culture for centuries, while Catholic and Protestant communities are present throughout the country. Traditional practices involving ancestors, local spiritual traditions, and religious customs often exist alongside formal religious affiliation. Protestant Christianity has a particularly significant presence among some ethnic minority communities in the northern and Central Highlands.

Vietnam is far more diverse than the familiar image of the Kinh majority and the Vietnamese language might suggest. The northern mountains are home to communities such as the Hmong, Dao, Tay, and Thai, while the Central Highlands are home to peoples including the Ede, Jarai, Mnong, and Sedang. The Khmer Krom have deep historical roots in the Mekong Delta, while Cham communities maintain their own distinctive heritage along the south-central coast.

For many smaller communities, language is inseparable from identity. A person may speak Vietnamese in school or at work while using another language at home. Cultural traditions, family structures, and spiritual practices can also differ significantly between communities.

Rapid economic development has transformed Vietnam’s cities. Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, and other urban centers attract young people seeking education and employment. Industrial zones have brought millions of workers into new communities, while migration from rural areas continues to reshape family life.

Vietnam has millions of Christians, yet the presence of churches does not mean that every Vietnamese person has clearly encountered the Gospel.

There are families whose understanding of Christianity may be shaped almost entirely by cultural assumptions. There are young people who have never opened a Bible. There are villages in mountainous regions where Christian resources and trained leaders are scarce. There are minority communities whose languages have few Christian materials. There are urban workers surrounded by millions of people who may never have had a meaningful conversation about Jesus.

Some people have heard Christian terminology without hearing the Gospel itself. Some have encountered religion without encountering grace.

Vietnam’s spiritual life cannot be reduced to a single religious category. Buddhism has a longstanding cultural presence, while ancestor veneration and local spiritual traditions remain important within many families. Catholicism has a long-established presence, and Protestant Christianity has grown particularly among some ethnic minority communities.

The legal environment permits religious belief, yet religious activity remains subject to government regulation, registration, and oversight. Reports have documented particular difficulties for some unregistered religious communities and ethnic minority Christians, especially in parts of the Central Highlands and northern highlands.

Pray For The Kinh Majority

Pray for the Kinh majority, whose language and culture shape much of Vietnamese public life. Pray for families, university students, professionals, and young adults who are searching for purpose in a rapidly changing society. Ask God to create genuine friendships through which people can encounter Christians who live with integrity and speak about Jesus with grace.

And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

Jeremiah 29:13

Pray For The Northern Highlands

Pray for the Hmong, Dao, Tay, Thai, and other communities living among the mountains and valleys of northern Vietnam. Pray for people who live far from major urban centers and for Christian workers who must cross difficult terrain to reach them. Ask God to raise local leaders who can disciple Christian Believers in their own languages and cultural settings.

The humble He guides in justice,
And the humble He teaches His way.

Psalm 25:9

Pray For The Central Highlands

Pray for the Ede, Jarai, Mnong, Sedang, and other peoples of the Central Highlands. Pray for Christian communities that have experienced pressure and uncertainty, particularly those whose religious activities are not formally registered. Ask God to give Christian Believers wisdom, courage, and peace, and to protect families and strengthen local churches.

The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, And delivers them.

Psalm 34:7

Pray For The Mekong Delta

Pray for the communities of southern Vietnam whose lives are connected to the Mekong Delta. Pray for farmers, fishermen, market workers, and families adapting to economic and environmental changes. Remember the Khmer Krom communities and other peoples whose distinct cultural and spiritual traditions. Ask God to raise Christian witnesses who serve with patience and genuine respect.

The Lord is good to all,
And His tender mercies are over all His works.

Psalm 145:9

Pray For The Mountain Communities

Pray for Christian Believers who travel long distances to encourage other Christians. Pray for local leaders who understand both Scripture and their own cultural context. Ask God to establish churches that can reproduce disciples without depending entirely upon outside assistance.

For the mountains shall depart
And the hills be removed,
But My kindness shall not depart from you,
Nor shall My covenant of peace be removed,”
Says the Lord, who has mercy on you.

Isaiah 54:10

Heavenly Father,

We bring Vietnam before You.

You know every person in this nation. You know the crowded streets of Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, the villages beside the Mekong, the fishing communities along the coast, and the mountain settlements far from the great cities. You know the Kinh majority and every one of Vietnam’s ethnic peoples. You know their languages, families, histories, and hopes.

We pray for those who have never truly heard the Gospel. Open doors that human beings cannot open. Give Christians wisdom to build friendships across cultural and religious boundaries. Give Christian Believers courage to speak about Jesus with humility, clarity, and love.

We pray for the Hmong, Dao, Tay, Thai, Ede, Jarai, Mnong, Sedang, Khmer Krom, Cham, and every community that calls Vietnam home. Raise up disciples from within these communities who can communicate the Gospel in the languages of their hearts.

Father, let the Gospel travel through every city, village, mountain, and valley. Where people have heard only fragments, give them understanding. Where people have never heard, send a messenger. Where churches are small, give them strength. Where Christian Believers are weary, give them courage.

May the people of Vietnam encounter Jesus Christ and discover in Him the hope that cannot be found anywhere else.

In the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
