Pray for courage among Algerian Christian Believers

Pray that Christian Believers would remain faithful when gathering is difficult and following Jesus Christ brings personal cost, and pray for church leaders facing legal proceedings.

Father, give courage to Your people in Algeria, and be with them wherever they go.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

Joshua 1:9

Pray for Christian fellowship

Many Christian Believers have lost access to established places of worship. Pray for safe opportunities for them to encourage, disciple, and strengthen one another.

Lord, strengthen Christian fellowship in Algeria, and let Your people build one another up in love.

And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works,

Hebrews 10:24

Pray for those who choose to follow Jesus Christ

Pray especially for Algerians whose decision to follow Jesus Christ brings tension within their families or communities, that God would give them wisdom, protection, and loving relationships.

Father, receive and keep those who have left everything to follow You, and surround them with Your family.

When my father and my mother forsake me, Then the Lord will take care of me.

Psalm 27:10

Pray for workers

Pray for people who can faithfully serve Algeria through business, education, humanitarian work, language learning, community development, and discipleship.

Lord, send workers who will serve Algeria with humility, wisdom, and love.

And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!’

Romans 10:15

Unreached people groups: 35
Unreached frontier people groups: 29

Algeria is a vast North African nation stretching from the Mediterranean coast deep into the Sahara. Its population is predominantly Muslim, and it is home to a remarkable diversity of peoples and languages.

Algerian Arabs

The largest people group, almost 35 million people, among whom evangelical Christians are almost unknown.

Kabyle

The largest Amazigh people, estimated at more than 6.8 million in Algeria.

Shawiya

An Amazigh people numbering around 2.5 million.

Other Amazigh peoples

Including the Central Atlas and Mozabite communities.

Tuareg and Saharan peoples

The Algerian Tuareg, about 81,000 people classified as frontier, along with the Tahaggart Tuareg, Sahrawi communities, and smaller Saharan and Bedouin peoples.

Algeria has hosted Sahrawi refugees for half a century, one of the world’s longest-standing refugee situations. It also hosts around 12,000 refugees and asylum seekers from other countries, mainly Syrians and people from sub-Saharan Africa. For those in remote camps, a harsh environment, few ways to earn a living, and limited humanitarian funding make life especially difficult.

The scale of the need is enormous. Of Algeria’s 38 people groups, 35 are unreached and 29 are frontier. Together they make up about 99.8% of the population.

The constitution names Islam as the state religion. Legislation regulates non-Muslim worship and restricts proselytization and religious activity, and authorities have restricted access to religious materials, including Bibles and Christian educational resources.

The Protestant church has faced particularly severe pressure. The Evangelical Protestant Church of Algeria once had 47 member churches; by 2025, reports indicated that only one remained open, under tight restrictions. Legal and administrative pressure on Christian communities continues.

For those who come to faith from a Muslim background, there can also be strong pressure within families and communities.

Yet Algeria is not without Christian witness. There are Algerian Christian Believers, there are churches, there are Christian resources, and there are people seeking truth. Many have heard the name of Jesus, or encountered Christianity through history, media, or the internet. But hearing about Christianity is not the same as hearing and understanding the good news of Jesus Christ.

Pray for the Gospel to reach where Jesus Christ is little known

Pray for creative, peaceful, and culturally appropriate ways for Algerians to encounter the message of Jesus Christ.

Lord, open ways for the Gospel to reach every people in Algeria.

And so I have made it my aim to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build on another man’s foundation,

Romans 15:20

Pray for the Amazigh and other distinct peoples

Pray for the Kabyle, Shawiya, Central Atlas, Mozabite, and Tuareg peoples, that the Gospel would reach them in their own languages and communities, with respect for Algeria’s linguistic and cultural diversity.

Father, make Your salvation known among the Amazigh, the Tuareg, and every smaller community whose name You know.

That Your way may be known on earth, Your salvation among all nations.

Psalm 67:2

Pray for access to God’s Word

Pray that Bibles, Christian literature, and digital Scripture resources would reach those searching for truth, and that restrictions would not keep people from encountering Scripture.

Lord, make Your Word accessible across Algeria.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

2 Timothy 3:16

Pray for refugees

Pray for Sahrawi refugees and others living in Algeria, for protection, dignity, provision, and opportunities to rebuild their lives, and for Christian Believers serving among vulnerable communities.

God of compassion, provide for refugees and let them know Your love.

He administers justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the stranger, giving him food and clothing.

Deuteronomy 10:18

Pray for Algeria’s young people

Pray for a generation of young Algerians to find wisdom and purpose and an openness to seek God.

Father, pour out Your Spirit on Algeria’s sons and daughters, and let a new generation discover Jesus Christ.

The Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul.

Acts 16:14

Father,

We bring Algeria before You. You know every city, village, mountain, and desert community, every language and every family. You know every person who is searching for truth and every Christian Believer who feels alone.

Give courage to Your people. Open doors for the Gospel, protect those who follow Jesus Christ, and strengthen Christian fellowship. Make Your Word accessible, and raise up workers who will serve with humility, wisdom, and love.

Reach the Arabic-speaking peoples. Reach the Amazigh peoples and the Tuareg. Reach the smaller communities whose names may be unknown to us but are fully known to You. Bring hope to refugees and vulnerable families, and let a new generation discover the person of Jesus Christ.

May Algeria become a place where the name of Jesus Christ is not merely known, but understood, loved, and followed.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
