At least 130 Nigerians in South Africa want to return home after fresh protests against foreign migrants. These protests happened in cities like Pretoria and Johannesburg, where some local people blamed foreigners for unemployment, crime, and pressure on public services. Because of rising fear and tension, Nigeria has started a voluntary plan to bring its citizens back safely. The Nigerian government also raised serious concerns about the deaths of two Nigerian men. According to officials, they died during separate encounters with South African security forces, and there are claims that excessive force may have been used. Nigeria has asked for full investigations, including autopsy reports, to understand exactly how the men died and to ensure justice is served. At the same time, South Africa has promised to act against xenophobic attacks and reduce violence. Both countries are now talking to find long-term solutions to migration issues. However, many migrants still feel unsafe, and more Nigerians may choose to return if the situation does not improve soon.
Pray for divine protection upon all the Nigerians living in South Africa from hatred and violent attacks. Pray for divine peace and love to supernaturally fill the hearts and minds of Nigerians as well as the people in their host countries (The Holy Bible, Psalm 141:8).
Pray for peaceful and friendly relations between Nigeria and South Africa. Pray for the authorities of both countries to take immediate action to protect the Nigerians living abroad and to curb the violence against innocent people (The Holy Bible, Matthew 5:9).
