A new study published in International Studies in Sociology of Education reveals that Lebanon’s ongoing political and economic crisis has driven parents to seek unregulated “shadow” education, such as private tutoring, to compensate for the failing public school system. Underpaid and unsupported teachers often tutor privately to survive, impacting classroom teaching quality. The sectarian government’s neglect of public education and emphasis on privatization has deepened social inequalities. Many parents, unable to afford private schools, turn to low-quality public schools and rely on tutors despite financial hardship. WhatsApp-based teaching has proven ineffective, adding to academic pressure. Researchers warn that the situation is worsening educational inequality, but express hope for future public education reforms and teacher support.

Pray for the authorities in Lebanon to prioritize equality and quality education for all the children in the country. Pray for the quality reforms and resources for the Lebanese public schools to serve their communities in effective ways (The Holy Bible, Job 12:23).

Pray for all the children in Lebanon to have access to quality education. Pray for the improved educational infrastructure for all the public schools in the nation. Pray for divine provision for all the families burdened by economic hardship in the country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 68:10).
