Eritrea is one of the world’s main sources of refugees, despite its small population. Many people leave because of strict government control and a lack of freedom under President Isaias Afwerki. Citizens are forced into long national service, often for many years, with little or no pay, and they cannot easily leave the country. People who refuse may face prison, violence, or abuse. There is also no free media, no elections, and very limited personal rights. Because of this, many Eritreans risk dangerous journeys to escape. They travel through countries like Ethiopia, Sudan, or Libya, often facing hunger, violence, or human trafficking along the way. Even after reaching other countries, life is still uncertain, with limited protection and resources. Many refugees must move again due to conflict or strict policies. Despite the risks, Eritreans continue to leave, hoping to find safety, freedom, and a better future for themselves and their families.
Pray for the government of Eritrea to uphold the justice, rights, and freedoms of civil society in the nation. Pray for the lawmakers to cancel the oppressive laws that impact the fundamental rights and beliefs system in the country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 43:1).
Pray for the LORD’S intervention in Eritrea against the inhumane rights violations in the nation. Pray for miraculous deliverance from the oppression. Pray for all the Eritreans to experience and exercise true freedom in their homeland as well as in their host countries (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 23:18).
