In the repressive nation of Turkmenistan, social media has long been banned. Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter and Viber have never been allowed. Even Russian networks Odnoklassniki and VKontakte were banned. Only officially sanctioned media are allowed to operate and internet access is provided solely by the state-owned TurkmenTelecom. In December, the government launched its first privately developed messaging service. The BizBarde app will allow the exchange of messages, files, photos and videos. Even before it was launched, 5000 people had downloaded the test version. Pray that this platform might be used to share the Gospel within this very closed nation (The Bible, 2 Peter 3:9).
