Economic reforms launched in 1986 have brought about significant growth and development; its performance during recent years has been the fastest in the previous ten. Of its 95 million people, 70 percent are under the age of 35. One of the last Communist states in the world, Vietnam’s government exerts great power. The state enforces strict controls over political and religious expression. House churches remain illegal, and churches must register though approval is rarely given. In 2017, churches were attacked, Christian bloggers and pastors were jailed and deported while other Christians fled the nation. Nevertheless, even though Christians are a minority in Vietnam, the numbers of ethnic minority conversions are swelling.

Praise Report
Praise God that a small but flourishing Church is being established. Praise God that there are frequently testimonies of healing and other miracles (The Bible, Matthew 10:8).

Prayer Requests
The Catholic church is by far the largest church in Vietnam. Pray that it might be renewed in its love for Jesus and God’s Word despite the persecution it faces (The Bible, Titus 3:4-6).
Pray for activists, bloggers, and other outspoken critics of the government who face severe persecution. Pray that God might touch their hearts as they long for changes in their nation (The Bible, Psalm 27:14).

Call to Salvation
This year there has been much speculation over the health of President Nguyen Phu Trong, now 75. Pray for his salvation (The Bible, Hebrews 2:3).
