Domestic violence is a serious problem in Tajikistan, especially in rural areas where traditional beliefs are strong. Many women face different kinds of abuse, including physical harm, emotional pressure, and economic control. Some are beaten by their husbands, while others are insulted, threatened, or denied money for basic needs. In some cases, women are also mistreated by their husbands’ families and blamed for problems at home. This violence often continues because it is seen as normal, and many cases are never reported. The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) is working to change this situation by raising awareness and supporting victims. Since the country passed a law against domestic violence in 2013 and joined the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, progress has been made, but challenges remain. The SDC helps by training police, health workers, and community leaders, and by supporting crisis centers that offer legal and emotional help.
Pray for the legal system in Tajikistan to stand up for the rights and freedom of women in the country and bring an end to violence in any form against women. Pray for a change in society so that the dignity and worth of women will be recognized and upheld in the country (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 31:8).
Father GOD, we pray that the cry of Your daughters in Tajikistan reaches Your Throne. We pray for Your intervention in the lives of those who are facing violence and rejection. Let there be a transformation in their lives (The Holy Bible, Psalm 56:8-9).
