The education system in Eritrea has grown since independence, with more schools and more children attending classes than before. On the surface, this looks like progress, but the reality is more complex. The government closely controls what students learn and how teachers teach. Subjects like history and citizenship are shaped to promote loyalty to the ruling party and its past struggles. Students are often discouraged from asking critical questions or expressing different opinions. In the final year of secondary school, many students are required to undergo military-style training, which affects their education and future choices. Teachers and researchers are also monitored, and those who challenge the system may face serious consequences. Because of this, education does not always help students think freely or grow independently. Instead, it often becomes a means of influencing young minds and maintaining control, limiting creativity, open discussion, and genuine learning opportunities for many students.

Pray for the end of the dictatorship in Eritrea. Pray for the Eritrean regime to uphold the rights and freedoms of the citizens. Pray against political influence and indoctrination in the nation’s education system (The Holy Bible, Job 36:15).

Pray for all the children of Eritrea to have unhindered access to quality education. Pray for divine protection and wisdom for the children to excel in their studies and to become agents of change in their communities and the nation (The Holy Bible, Psalm 127:4).
