Pray for the churches in Oman’s cities
Christian communities are found mainly in Muscat, Sohar, and Salalah. Pray that they would become centers of prayer and witness.
Lord Jesus, give Christian Believers in Oman courage and wisdom, and let their lives point people toward You.
For from you the Word of the Lord has sounded forth,
1 Thessalonians 1:8
Pray for Christians from many nations
Many of Oman’s Christians come from South Asia and other parts of the world. A Christian living in Oman may meet people from several nations without leaving the country: a workplace, a neighborhood, a hospital, or a construction site can become a mission field, and a friendship can become a doorway.
Father, use the movement of people across nations to spread the Gospel, and let Oman’s culture of hospitality become a bridge for friendships in which Jesus Christ is made known with humility and respect.
Therefore those who were scattered went everywhere preaching the word.
Acts 8:4
Pray for those preparing to serve
Pray for every person God is preparing to serve among Oman’s unreached communities, and for workers to be led to the right people, villages, and conversations.
Lord, strengthen those You are calling, and establish a lasting witness where none exists today.
But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.
1 Peter 5:10
Pray for expatriate workers
Pray for workers living far from home, for protection, dignity, and good relationships, and for Christians who will listen to their stories and share the hope of Jesus Christ.
God of every nation, remember workers far from their families, and be their help.
I will lift up my eyes to the hills; From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.
Psalm 121:1–2
Capital: Muscat
Official language: Arabic
Other major languages: English, South Asian and African languages, and several indigenous languages
People groups: 31
Unengaged and unreached people groups: 15, approximately 443,000 people
Oman is a country of mountains, deserts, wadis, and long coastlines, with a history shaped by seafaring, trade, and ancient connections across the Arabian Sea. Its people carry strong traditions of family, hospitality, and community.
Southern Oman deserves particular attention. During the khareef season, the land around Salalah in Dhofar turns green and mist-covered, and the surrounding mountains are home to peoples with their own languages and traditions.
Omani Arabs
More than a million people, with distinctive regional identities. Evangelical Christians number less than 2%.
Gulf Arabs
About 883,000 people, with very limited evangelical presence.
Jibbali (Shehri)
About 48,000 people in Dhofar, living in coastal towns and the mountains and wilderness inland from Salalah. Their language, Shehri, is not a form of everyday Arabic but a distinct linguistic heritage. No evangelical church, Christian resource, or established evangelical presence is known among them.
Harasi
Only around 600 people, who speak Harsusi. Small enough to be overlooked by the world, but never by God.
Shihhi and other smaller communities
Including speakers of Shihhi Arabic in the far north.
Tamil Muslims
About 28,000 people, predominantly Sunni Muslim, among whom there is some Christian engagement but who remain unreached.
Expatriate communities
Large populations from South Asia and many other parts of the world.
Of Oman’s 31 people groups, 15 are unengaged and unreached, with no known effort under way to bring them the Gospel.
Islam is woven deeply into Omani society and family life, with Ibadi, Sunni, and Shia traditions all present. For someone considering Jesus Christ, the question involves family, identity, and belonging, not only personal belief.
Some of Oman’s peoples are small. When a community numbers only hundreds or tens of thousands, Christian resources in its language can be extremely limited.
Some live in mountainous and remote areas, where distance, difficult terrain, and dispersed settlements make sustained, relationship-based ministry hard.
Arabic is the national language, but the Jibbali and Harasi have their own languages, and a message heard only in another language may never reach the deepest level of understanding. For some communities, there may be no church, no Christian worker, and no Christian resources in their language at all.
The Gospel often travels through people who sit together, eat together, listen to one another, and eventually talk about life’s deepest questions.
Pray for the Jibbali
Pray for the 48,000 Jibbali people of southern Oman, and for people who can share the good news in ways they understand.
Father, hear the cries of the Jibbali, and open a way for the Gospel to reach their communities.
I waited patiently for the Lord; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry.
Psalm 40:1
Pray for the Harasi
The Harasi number only about 600 people and have no known evangelical presence.
Lord, do not let the small size of this community make it invisible. Give the Harasi access to Scripture and faithful Christian witness, and let them one day sing a new song of praise to You.
Sing to the Lord a new song, And His praise from the ends of the earth,
Isaiah 42:10
Pray for Omani Arab families
Pray that Omani homes would become places where questions about truth can be asked openly.
God of our salvation, reveal Yourself among Omani Arab families, and let them encounter the hope found in Jesus Christ.
By awesome deeds in righteousness You will answer us, O God of our salvation, You who are the confidence of all the ends of the earth, And of the far-off seas;
Psalm 65:5
Pray for Gulf Arab communities
Pray for spiritual hunger among Gulf Arab communities, and for unexpected opportunities to encounter Jesus Christ.
Father, give seekers patience to look for the truth, and let them find it in You.
Therefore I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; My God will hear me.
Micah 7:7
Pray for Tamil-speaking Muslims
Pray for Tamil Muslim families in Oman, and for Tamil-speaking Christian Believers to reach them with wisdom, friendship, and love.
Lord Jesus, shine Your light into Tamil Muslim homes in Oman.
That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.
John 1:9
Pray for Scripture and Christian resources
Pray for Scripture and Gospel resources for communities that have little or none, and for translators, language specialists, and Christian workers to have the resources and perseverance they need.
Lord, let the Gospel be heard in Shehri, Harsusi, and every language of Oman.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
Romans 1:16
Father,
Today we pray for Oman: for Muscat and Salalah, for the mountains of Dhofar, for the villages and valleys, for Omani families and migrant workers, and for people who speak languages most of the world has never heard. We especially remember the Jibbali and the Harasi. You know their languages, their families, and their history, and You know every person who has never heard the name of Jesus.
Raise up workers. Open doors and provide Scripture. Give wisdom to those who cross cultural boundaries, and courage to Christians who quietly live and work among people who do not yet know You. Let relationships become pathways for the Gospel.
May the mountains of Oman hear the good news. May the cities hear, and may the smallest communities hear. May those who have never encountered Jesus Christ discover that they have never been forgotten by God, and may people from every community one day lift their voices in worship to Him.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
