Morocco is becoming an important country in helping West Africa’s Sahel region face a possible food crisis. A new study says that rising fertilizer prices and shipping delays, caused by global trade problems, could reduce crop production. This is serious because many people in the Sahel depend on farming and rainfall for food. Up to 50 million people may face hunger during the 2026 lean season if action is not taken. Morocco is in a strong position to help because it has about 70% of the world’s phosphate reserves and a strong fertilizer industry led by OCP Group. The country already works with many African nations through farming projects, soil studies, and fertilizer supply networks. These connections allow Morocco to support farmers quickly and effectively. Experts say Morocco has the ability and partnerships to link global fertilizer supply with local needs. With cooperation from other countries and organizations, Morocco could play a key role in reducing hunger and supporting food security in the Sahel region in the coming years.

Pray for the 50 million people suffering food insecurity in the Sahel region to have access to enough, healthy food and other basic needs and rights. Pray for divine provision for all the families in need (The Holy Bible, Job 38:41).

Pray for increased farmland and improved infrastructure in the Sahel region to end food insecurity. Pray for fruitful farming initiatives to protect and improve the lives and livelihoods of the people in the country and in the region (The Holy Bible, Psalm 118:25).
