People in Eritrea face serious and ongoing human rights problems. Reports from the United Nations Human Rights Council say the government has committed crimes like torture, imprisonment, and forced labor for many years. Many citizens are forced into long and unpaid national service, sometimes for life, and even children can be affected. People who speak against the government, including journalists and former officials, are often jailed without contact with family. Fear and punishment are common, even for relatives of those who try to escape. Eritrean forces have also been accused of violence in the Tigray region, including attacks on civilians. Tensions with Ethiopia are rising again, which may make the situation worse. Many people have fled the country to seek safety. Experts warn that without change, these abuses may continue. They are calling for investigations, justice, and respect for basic human rights.
Pray for the end of the dictatorship in Eritrea. Pray for the Eritrean leader to uphold the rights and freedom of the citizens. Pray for divine protection upon all the people, including rights defenders, former officials, and journalists, in the country (The Holy Bible, Job 36:15).
Pray for the Eritrean authorities to abide by international law and uphold the rights and freedoms of civilians. Pray for the international authorities to take immediate action against those who violate human rights in Eritrea (The Holy Bible, Deuteronomy 26:7).
