An artillery strike on a village in northern Yemen killed at least 10 people, including six children, and wounded more than 30 others, officials said on March 16, 2026. The explosion happened in Hajjah province during iftar, the evening meal that ends the daily fast in Ramadan. The internationally recognised Yemeni government blamed Iran‑backed Houthi rebels for the shelling, saying they fired the artillery into the village where people were gathered. The area is partly controlled by the Houthis, though some parts are still held by the government based in Aden. So far, the Houthis have not officially commented on the attack. The United Nations special envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, expressed deep concern and urged all parties to follow international humanitarian law and protect civilians. Yemen has been in conflict for many years, and attacks like this highlight how dangerous daily life remains for ordinary people, especially in rural communities where fighting continues. The death toll may rise as more wounded people are treated in hospitals and rescue efforts continue.
Pray for the perpetrators behind this violence to be made accountable for their evil acts in Yemen. Pray for justice and peace to prevail in the nation. Pray for divine protection upon all the Yemeni people (The Holy Bible, Psalm 140:12).
Almighty GOD, we plead for Your intervention in Yemen to end violence against innocent civilians. We pray that the Yemeni people shall again take root downward and bear fruit upward. Let the zeal of the LORD of hosts do this. Amen (The Holy Bible, Isaiah 37:31-32).
